Closed Terrariums

We will be building closed terrariums with locally sourced and recycled items. We will start with the water cycle and why this will be a self-sustaining environment. Then we hunt around outdoors for hardscape, rocks, mosses, and the perfect plants to feature in our mini-world. It is the perfect combination of outside exploration, artistry, and science.

The Enchanted Canoe

This workshop explores the lore of the voyageurs and fur traders, in a time in history when First Nations and Settlers of our region collaborated peacefully. Based on the French-Canadian folk tale called the Chasse Galerie, the children imagine living in an isolated hunt camp, far the comforts of home. The participants create characters and don costumes similar to the working people of the day.

The adventure “takes flight” when one night a shadowy figure approaches their campfire and promises to enchant their canoe to take them to their hearts’ desire. The small voyageurs then act out their “choose your own adventure” in front of a green screen.
