Poetry and Poop
April is Poetry Month, contains Easter, and hosts Earth Day. So we are going to look at how eco-systems work at the simplest level- Who is eating who?
We will try and untangle the food web with hands-on activities and games. Then we will digest some of that “big brian” vocabulary and turn it into magnificent magnet poetry.
We will explore concepts like:
§ Producers: organisms that can make their own food.
– Example: plants
§ Consumers: organisms that cannot make their own food and rely on plants and other animals for food.
– Examples: animals and humans.
– There are three groups of consumers:
Ø Herbivores: eat only plants
Ø Carnivores: eat only animals/ meat
Ø Omnivores: eat both plants and animals/ meat
§ Decomposers: a microorganism that eats dead animals and plants.
– Examples: fungi and bacteria.
These concepts are introduced in Grade 1, explored in depth in Grade 4, and again Grade 6 in the Ontario Curriculum.
Snacks will be provided. If you have allergies or dietary requirements- please note them on your registration form.
