Fall Session Workshops
Contact your local library to register. If a date at your local branch does not work, please feel free to register at another location on a convenient day.
Look Up! Tree Identification (Finished Now)
During a nature walk to collect specimens, we will make observations about leaves, bark, branches, seeds, and other identifying features of local trees. We will be putting our notes and specimens in a tree identification field journal. We will be discussing the importance of trees to the environment.
Each child will receive a seedling to take home. (Registration Required)

In partnership with Rideau Lakes Library, all Rideau Eco-Kiddos are invited to the Sappers and Miners Graveyard in Newboro to create grave stone rubbings and maybe meet a ghost or two. The Sappers and Miners and others buried in this cemetery were among the first settlers in the area.
October 26th (Board-wide PD Day) 2:00- 3:30
This workshop will be followed by paranormal investigators, Phantoms of Yore, at Newboro Hall. Learn about their findings at the historic Newboro Branch and use their ghostbusting equipment!
Meet at the Cemetery at 2:00 pm. 8700 County Road 42, Newboro.
Wild Clay
Participants will learn how to identify, harvest, and process wild clay. From already prepared samples, we will each make a slab construction treasure box. They will be able to take home some sample clay and their creation.

Natural Holiday Crafts
In a less formal setting, we will chat about some history of celebrations and traditions that occur at this time of year. We will also discuss some of the impact that consumerism might have on the environment. While we talk, participants will be building some holiday ornaments out of found, recycled, and natural materials.
We will also review Tree Identification—Coniferous Edition as a Centrepiece.
Hot Glue will likely be used in this workshop. Children under 8 years should have a helper standing by.
